It has been reported in The Times newspaper recently that the BBC paid £213,000 in order to buy bbc.com from a US company during the peak of the dot-com boom.

The reseller market for domain names has recently seen quite a few 6-figure sum sales for generic domain names such as vip.com.  It is also a well known fact that all 3-letter .com domain names have been registered for some time now ... as has www.wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.com (try a few for yourself!)
